The position remained when in 1987, Goa was split from this territory and became a new state. Chief ministers of Goa have included Manohar Parrikar and Pratapsing Rane. While some chief ministers of Goa have served for several years, others have served for only a few weeks or months. They have come from several different political parties. The position is currently held by Pratapsing Rane, and has been since June 7 2005 when the state was let go from president's rule.
