Specialty Expressions: INDUCTION MOTOR

ExpressionsDomainDefinition
Induction motorEnergyA motor in which a three phase (or any multiphase) alternating current (i.e.the working current) is supplied to iron-cored coils (or windings) within the stator. As a result, a rotating magnetic field is set up, which induces a magnetizing current in the rotor coils (or windings). Interaction of the magnetic field produced in this manner with the rotating field causes rotational motion to occur. (references)
Linear induction motorAerospaceA motor that produces power by using alternating current (AC) electricity similar to the electricity in a wall outlet. An example of an induction motor is an electric fan. Linear induction motors propel a craft in a straight line instead of spinning around. (references)
Linear induction motorTransportationAn asynchronous linear alternating-current motor in which the primary windings (generally on the vehicle) induce a current in a reaction rail (generally on the guideway) to produce opposing magnetic fields that propel the vehicle. The primary windings are sometimes referred to as the active elements and the reaction rail as the passive element. Source: European Union. (references)
Salient pole synchronous induction motorMechanical EngineeringA salient pole synchronous motor having a coil winding for starting purposes embedded in the pole shoes. The terminal leads of this coil winding are connected to collector rings. Source: European Union. (references)
