Expressions Definition
Tissot's Indicatrix Tissot's Indicatrix is a method of measuring map distortion developed by Nicolas Auguste Tissot, a French mathematician and cartographer, in the 1800s. By marking circles on a globe and then mapping the coordinates of the circles on a map, distortions of size, angle and shape become evident by the transformed sizes, angles, and shapes of the circles. Each of these is known as a distortion circle. (references)
