Alan Henson played first class rugby union for Maesteg RFC as a loose head prop forward. He was club captain from 1990 to 1992, when they were promoted to division one. He also played for Glamorgan county. After he retired from playing, he coached the Maesteg front row. Regarded by many as the ideal captain of a Maesteg dream team.
