| Hornsey process | Mining | A method for the low-temperature reduction of iron ore by means of a series of rotary kilns. The kilns are each about 5 ft (1.5 m) in diameter and 30 ft (9.1 m) in length. The first is used for preheating, the second for reduction, and the third for cooling the product.
