| High pressure area | Geography | Area of relatively high pressure surrounded by closed isobars, the pressure gradient being directed from the center so that the wind blows spirally outward in a clockwise direction in the northern hemisphere, counterclockwise in the southern hemisphere; a region of atmosphere where pressure significantly exceeds that of the surroundings; A zone of relatively high atmospheric pressure, normally characterized by fine weather and unpredictable winds; An atmosphere system in which the wind circulates round an area of high pressure, clockwise in the North Hemisphere and counter-clockwise in the South Hemisphere.
