Expressions Domain Definition
Haar Transform Space A member of the more general family of transforms known as "wavelets", but in this case using the Haar wavelet. The application of the Haar transform emphasizes image texture. The Haar wavelet comes from the dilation equation applied to a smoothing function defined as 1 on the interval [0, 1) and zero elsewhere. The wavelet is +1 on [0, ) and -1 on [, 1) which looks like the kernel for first differences. It is the simplest basis of the wavelet transform as it is well localized in space and time. However, it is poorly localized in frequency and scale. Wavelet coefficients are large where the signal is discontinuous but they decay slowly with scale. (references)
