Wikipedic A flam is one of the twenty-six drum rudiments used in drumming music theory. It consists of a soft "grace note" on one hand followed by a louder stroke on the other. The two notes are played almost simultaneously, and are intended to sound like a single, 'broader' note. It is also meant to be visually impressive as well. The correct way to play a flam is to use varying stick heights to produce the two notes, not simply by forcing one stick down sooner. Flams can combined with other different rudiments such as a paradiddle which will result in a flamadiddle and a triplet to result in a flam triplet, otherwise known as a flam accent. (references)
