Eriodictyon californicum is a species of plant within the Hydrophyllaceae family. It is also known as Yerba Santa, Mountain Balm, Consumptive's Weed and Bear Weed.[1]
Medicinal use
Leaf extracts are used to treat asthma, upper respiratory infections and allergic rhinitis.
Food use
From the plant, 4 flavanones has been identified by Symrise with bitter-masking properties: homoeriodictyol, its sodium salt, sterubin and eriodictyol.[2] Thoses compounds have huge potential uses in food and pharmaceutical industry to mask bitter taste.
