| Evans clean flow tunnel | Transportation | An intermittently operating wind tunnel in which air is stored at high pressure in a tube upstream of the test section; the flow is initiated by opening a valve downstream and maintained by a driving piston in the tube, the opening of the valve and the acceleration of the piston being matched so as to ensure the mutual cancellation of compression and expansion waves at the start of the run. The flow conditions are thus kept constant until the piston has traveled the length of the tube and low levels of turbulence and noise are achieved. Source: European Union. (references) | |
