| Electron Beam Ion Trap | Physics | Also known as an EBIT, this type of device uses an ion trap to confine a non-neutral plasma which is bombarded by a monoenergetic electron beam. This technique can produce a single species of trapped highly charged ions and enables high-precision spectroscopic study of any charge state of any element. For further information see R. E. Marrs et al., Physical Review Letters, v. 60, p. 1715 (1988), and subsequent publications. (references) | |
