Bible 1: (favored of God) and Medad (love), two of the seventy elders to whom was communicated the prophetic power of Moses. (Numbers 11:16,26) (B.C. 1490.) Although their names were upon the last which Moses had drawn up, (Numbers 11:26) they did not repair with the rest of their brethren to the tabernacle, but continued to prophesy in the camp. Moses, being requested by Joshua to forbid this, refused to do so, and expressed a wish that the gift of prophecy might be diffused throughout the people. (references)
2: Eldad whom God has loved, one of the seventy elders whom Moses appointed (Num. 11:26, 27) to administer justice among the people. He, with Medad, prophesied in the camp instead of going with the rest to the tabernacle, as Moses had commanded. This incident was announced to Moses by Joshua, who thought their conduct in this respect irregular. Moses replied, "Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the Lord's people were prophets" (Num. 11:24-30; comp. Mark 9:38; Luke 9:49). Source: Easton's 1897 Bible Dictionary.

Eldad ha-Dani Eldad ha-Dani or Eldad HaDani or Eldad ben Mahli ha-Dani was a merchant and traveler of the ninth century. He professed to have been a citizen of an independent Jewish state in eastern Africa, inhabited by people claiming descent from the tribes of Dan (hence his name, ha-Dani = the Danite), Asher, Gad, and Naphtali. Starting from this alleged state, Eldad visited Babylonia, Kairouan, and Spain, causing everywhere a great stir among the Jews by his fanciful accounts of the Ten Lost Tribes, and by the halakhot which he asserted he had brought from his native country. These halakhot, written in Hebrew, deal with the slaughtering and subsequent examination of animals (see Kosher). They differ widely from the Talmudic ordinances, and are introduced in the name of Joshua ben Nun, or, according to another version, of Othniel ben Kenaz. Eldads accounts soon spread, and, as usual in such cases, were remolded and amplified by copyists and editors. There are no less than eight versions with important variations. (references)
Israel Eldad Israel Eldad (1910 - 1996) born Israel Schieb in Podvolochisk, Galicia, was a philosopher and one of the leaders of the Lohame Herut Israel or Lehi. After obtaining a doctorate in philosophy, he returned to Poland to teach Jewish studies at the Jewish Teacher’s Seminary in Vilna. He was a leader in Betar and contributed philosophical, literary and political articles to the Hebrew and Yiddish press in Poland. Arriving in Mandate Palestine during World War II, he joined Lehi. He was the movement’s foremost intellectual leader and edited its underground publications. His fiery articles were widely read and discussed. (references)
