During the crucifixion, Jesus indicates the Beloved Disciple and tells his mother "Woman, here is your son." To the Beloved Disciple he says, "Here is your mother." Messianic DiscipleA Messianic Disciple (in the Christian/Biblical sense) is someone who is an authentic disciple (such as those described in [http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?passage=Acts+2%3A42&x=14&y=9&NIV_version=yes&NASB_version=yes&NLT_version=yes&NKJV_version=yes&language=english Acts 2:42]) and who is actively looking forward to the Messianic Kingdom as prophesied in the Bible. Not all disciples are messianic, nor are all messianic people real disciples. The label is seen as both more broad and yet more narrow than either Messianic Jew or Messianic Gentile (or Gentile Christians). On the one hand it encompasses both Jews and Gentiles, but on the other hand it does not include many who are nice, religious Messianic Jews or Gentiles but who are not authentic disciples. An advantage of the term is that it recognizes the elimination of the wall of separation between Jew and Gentile. Also, it focuses attention on what is really important for the believer (to be a genuine disciple), rather than on one's heritage or cultural practices. (references)
