Expressions Definition
Elizabeth Dilling Elizabeth Dilling (née Kirkpatrick, 1894 - died 1966), was born in Chicago on April 19, 1894, to a prosperous Episcopalian family. She attended the University of Chicago where she studied music and languages, but did not graduate. She married Albert Dilling, a engineer and lawyer, in 1918. That difficult marriage produced two children. The couple travelled globally, and in the early Thirties they visited the Soviet Union. They spent a long time there, and filmed what they saw. Communist Russia shocked them. When they returned Elizabeth went on tour showing her movies and describing the Soviet paradise. She wrote and she eventually produced four controversial books. The Red Network, A Who's Who of Radicalism for Patriots, 1934, described Communist and Communist Front activity in the US. The Roosevelt Red Record followed in 1936. That book condemned FDR, The New Deal, and the administration for their strong links to the Reds. The Octopus, which attacked the Anti-Defamation League and linked the Jews to Communism, came after.
