Extended Definition: CESSOR

Cessor

In English law, a cessor was one dilatory, negligent, and delinquent in his duty or service, and who thereby incurred the danger of the law, and was liable to have the writ of cessavit brought against him. Where it was said the tenant cesseth, it was meant that he ceased to do his duty, or service to which he was bound.

The term "cessor" also formerly referred to one who determined the amount of a cess; an assessor.
