Carbonized were a Swedish heavy metal band. They later incorporated psychedelic infused grindcore and gradually became more and more avant-garde.

History

Their final album Screaming Machines was a psychedelic and dissonant sounding metal album and was, at least at the time of the release, one of the most unconventional records ever released.[citation needed] Quite different from anything that any of the members would become involved in later, the three albums ran the gamut from psychedelic grindcore on For the Security to dischordant jazz-metal on the second album Disharmonization' to something even stranger yet on Screaming Machines and described as "the worst of Sonic Youth, Syd Barret era Pink Floyd, old Black Flag, and Voivod" by Christofer Johnsson. Even the most conventional of the three For the Security has an odd feel about it, as it's quite apparent that Rosenberg and friends were experimenting with sounds and styles that unfortunately never caught on. Disharmonization is not for everyone, it's not an easy listen and its quirkiness sometimes gets the best of it, but it's also quite an interesting and cool album, with its clear (but not particularly melodic) vocal style adding to the strangeness. Both Rosenberg and Wawrzeniuk were featured on a few Therion albums through Christopher Johnnson, and they also paired up in the doom metal band Serpent. However, the band never formally split up, but have never recorded since 1996. All of the members have played or still play in Therion.
