Calamander wood

Calamander wood or Coromandel wood is a valuable furniture wood from India and Sri Lanka(Ceylon), of a hazel-brown color, with black stripes, very hard in texture. It is a species of ebony, and is obtained from the Diospyros quaesita Thwaites. The name Calamander comes from the local sinhalese name, 'kalu-medhiriya', which means dark chamber; attributing to the characteristic ebony black heartwood.
