Asiatic Society of Bombay The Asiatic Society of Bombay is a public state library in the city of Mumbai, India. It was established in 1803 as "The Royal Asiatic Society, Bombay Branch." The society, founded by Sir James Mackintosh was known as the Literary Society of Bombay, and first met on November 26, 1830. It was later moved to the present Town Hall building which was built in 1804. The library is currently run on an annual grant by the state of Maharashtra. (references)
Bombay (cat) The Bombay cat was originally bred in 1958 by Nikki Horner, a cat breeder in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. She aimed at breeding an American Shorthair with a sable Burmese for the purpose of creating a domesticated cat that resembled a wild Black Panther. The offspring of this breeding did indeed resemble the Black Leopard of India. The name Bombay is derived from the Indian city of Bombay (now Mumbai). (references)

Bombay duck The Bombay duck or bummalo (Harpadon nehereus, Bengali: bamaloh, Gujarati: bumla, Marathi: bombil) is a teleost fish, primarily originating in the waters between Mumbai (formerly Bombay) and Kutch in the Arabian Sea. A small number are also found in the Bay of Bengal. The fish is often dried and salted before it is consumed. After drying, the odour of the fish is extremely powerful, and it must consequently be transported in air-tight containers. (references)

Bombay Explosion (1944) The Bombay Explosion (or Bombay Docks Explosion) occurred on April 14, 1944, in the Victoria Dock of Bombay (now Mumbai) when SS Fort Stikine carrying a mixed cargo of cotton bales, gold, ammunition including around 1,400 tons of explosive caught fire and was destroyed in two giant blasts, scattering debris, sinking surrounding ships and killing around 800 people.
