Axillary arteryIn human anatomy, the axillary artery is a large blood vessel that conveys oxygenated blood to the lateral aspect of the thorax, axilla (armpit) and upper limb. Its origin is at the lateral margin of the first rib, before which it is called the subclavian artery. (references)

Axillary intercourseA sexual variation where the penis is inserted in the other person's armpit. It can more loosely be described as a man masturbating with a partner's arms. Contact between the hairs in the armpit and on the penis, along with the pheromones released in the armpit, are an erotic stimulant for adherents to this practice. The partner has control of the pressure exerted on the penis and often exerts variable pressure to the man's thorax with the elbow. Pressure exerted on the breasts can bring the female to orgasm. Extended Definition: Axillary

Axillary

Axillary is an anatomical term derived from axilla, the armpit. "Axillary" literally means "pertaining to the armpit".

In vertebrate anatomy and medicine, it occurs in terms like:

  • Axillary artery
  • Axillary vein
  • Axillary nerve

In birds, the axillaries are the "armpit" feathers which become visible when the bird raises its wing. They can be important in distinguishing species, e.g. in the Pluvialis golden plovers.

In botany, axillary refers to the location of a node on a plant stem; more precisely, to the apical angle between a leaf and the stem above it. Almost all buds are located in axillary positions, for example.
