Expressions Definition
The Auberge of the Flowering Hearth The Auberge of the Flowering Hearth is a classic of food writing, first published in 1973, by Roy Andries De Groot, in which he writes about the time he spent at a French inn by that name (L'Auberge de l'Atre Fleuri in St-Pierre-de-Chartreuse, Savoy) and the good meals he ate there. It is an excellent primer to the logic of constructing a meal of several dishes so that they harmonize with one another, to the use of primarily local and seasonal ingredients to contribute to this harmony, and also an internal harmony within individual dishes. It is also a good snapshot of old-school aperitifs, such as kir, and illustrates how a kitchen of little pretentiousness can put out world-class food in an environment of passion, hard work, sound technique, long experience, etc. One of the more interesting aspects of the book is that De Groot was blind, yet his descriptions are highly visual. Auberge (a French word meaning "inn") is an album by Chris Rea, released in 1991. The cover, illustrated in oil by renowned motoring artist Alan Fearnley, featured an illustration of his own Caterham Super Seven [1] commonly referred to as the "Blue Seven" and has been referred to in several songs in the album.[2] The car also appeared in his video and its cover illustration was used for its adverts. In 2005, Rea sold his car in an auction.[3] Auberge was a #1 album in the UK in 1991.
