Expressions Definition
Aube (band) Aube is the name used by Japanese musician Akifumi Nakajima for his experimental noise records. He has released many CDs, LPs and cassettes since 1991, and is regarded as one of the most important noise musicians working today. He himself does not like to term his work "music"--preferring the term "design." "I don't think of myself as a musician or an artist. I'm a designer. I therefore consider my sound works to be designs as well." ([http://www.esophagus.com/htdb/aube/ source]) The essential element of his Aube project is that each record is composed with only a single material source. Examples of sources he has manipulated include: water, fluorescent lamps, voltage-controlled oscillators, voices, pulmonary sounds, and others. (references)
Aube (music) Aube is a one-man project of Akifumi Nakajima (中嶋 昭文 Nakajima Akifumi), born 1959 and from Japan. He was interested in sound work since the 80s, but had not released anything until he was asked to create music for an art installation in the early 90s. Since then, he has created an enormous amount of work - most of which is based on one sound source. Anything is used - from glass to oscillators and even pages from the Bible. His early work is noisier, while his new direction leans toward ambient. (references)

France

Aube is a department in the northeastern part of France named after the Aube River. In 1995, its population was 293,100 inhabitants.

History

Aube is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from part of the former province of Champagne.

Aube is perhaps best known for the 1932 visit of the late Turkish president Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who signed a friendship treaty with France there.

Geography

The department is part of the current region of Champagne-Ardenne. It is surrounded by the departments of Marne, Haute-Marne, Côte-d'Or, Yonne, and Seine-et-Marne.

The geography, with its chalky soil and undulating plain, is well adapted to wine-growing, particularly the champagne that takes its name from the region.

Culture

Clairvaux Abbey is located 15 km from Bar-sur-Aube. A cheese is named after the village of Chaource.
