Bible Asa physician, son of Abijah and grandson of Rehoboam, was the third king of Judah. He was zealous in maintaining the true worship of God, and in rooting all idolatry, with its accompanying immoralities, out of the land (1 Kings 15:8-14). The Lord gave him and his land rest and prosperity. It is recorded of him, however, that in his old age, when afflicted, he "sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians" (comp. Jer. 17:5). He died in the forty-first year of his reign, greatly honoured by his people (2 Chr. 16:1-13), and was succeeded by his son Jehoshaphat. Source: Easton's 1897 Bible Dictionary.

ASA (automobile) The ASA was an Italian automobile created by Giotto Bizzarrini and manufactured by the Bizzarrini company in Milan (in a factory owned by the De Nora Electrochemical Group) from 1962 to 1969. This small, high-efficiency "dream car" featured an OHC 1032 cc four-cylinder engine designed by Enzo Ferrari. A racing version of the 1000 GT Coupe had 1092 cc and 95 bhp (70 kW); later they featured 105 bhp (78 kW). Only a few of the cars were made, but they had a good deal of success at Italian sporting events. A few larger four- and six-cylinder vehicles were individually built to order; almost all were prototypes. All had fiberglass bodywork. (references)

Asa Danforth Asa Danforth (29 June 1768 - 1821 or later) was an American Revolutionary War veteran and leading citizen of Onondaga County, as well as a highway engineer. In 1797, he was contracted by the government of Upper Canada of Colonel John Graves Simcoe to clear a road from the outskirts of York (now Toronto). He completed the work in a year and the result was named The Dundas Road after a prominent British colonial official. However, Danforth left disgruntled with the payment and never returned to Canada. Asa Fitch Dr. Asa Fitch was born February 24th, 1809. He studied both natural history and medicine. He changed to agriculture and entomology in 1838 to collect and study insects for NY. He was the first professional Entomologist of New York State Agricultural Society in 1854. When the State of New York commissioned him in 1854 he became the first occupational entomologist in the United States. His vast studies of many insects helped scientists solve crop damage by insects. Many notebooks are now property of the Smithsonian Institution. Discovered the Rodent Bot fly (Cuterebra emasculator) in 1856. He died April 8th, 1879 in Salem, NY. (references)

Asa Whitney Asa Whitney (1797 - August 1872) was one of the first backers of an American Transcontinental Railway. It was as early as in the 1830 that Whitney first became bewitched with railroads and foresaw their future role in business and transport. He first stopped on a buying trip, he was a Merchant Trader, to ride the newly formed Liverpool and Manchester Railway. He made one of the first formal proposals to the US Government on building a Transcontinental Railroad. For years he was rejected and continued to write revised memorials and take expeditions through what was then known as Indian Territory to support his cause.
