Extended Definition: APOTACTITE

Apotactite

The Apotactites or Apostoloci (from LL. pl. apotactitae, Gr. αποτακτος "set apart") were a sect of early Christians who renounced all their worldly possessions.[1]

The Apostoloci, otherwise called Apotactitæ and Apotactici, rose out of the Encratitae and Cathari in the 3rd century. They made profession of abstaining from marriage, wine, flesh and money.

They are not the same group as the Apostolic Brethren who were in existence in the 13th century.
