13th Avenue (Manhattan) Thirteenth Avenue was a street in Manhattan, New York City, USA, built on landfill along the Hudson River. On an 1891 Bromley map, it is shown heading north from 11th Street to around 29th Street, where it became 12th Avenue. In the late 19th century, the road and landfill began to be removed south of 22nd Street to allow longer ships to dock. A small section north of Gansevoort Street, the West Washington Market, was left as an exception and this became a peninsula. The rest of the street is now part of 12th Avenue or the West Side Highway. (references)
