ScallopNoun1. One of a series of rounded teeth formed by curves along an edge (as the edge of a leaf or piece of cloth etc.). 2. Edible muscle of mollusks having fan-shaped shells; served broiled or poached or in salads or cream sauces. 3. Thin slice of meat (especially veal) usually fried or broiled. 4. Edible marine bivalve having a fluted fan-shaped shell that swim by expelling water from the shell in a series of snapping motions. Verb1. Decorate an edge with scallops, as of a dress. 2. A scallop is a type of shellfish widely used in both Eastern and Western cooking. Characterised by two types of meat in one shell: the scallop (white, meaty) and its coral (orange, soft) which is its roe. Dried scallop is known in Oriental cuisine as conpoy.
Scalloped edges or ridges refers to a wavy pattern reminiscent of the edge of a scallop's shell.
