Meteorology & Standards | In the International System, heat is measured in joules; it is the quantity of heat "equivalent" to an energy of one joule. But in the British System, the British Thermal Unit is the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of one 1b of water through the Fahrenheit degree:1 BTU = 1055 J = 0, 252 kcal. The term which equals 100, 000 BTU is consequently different from the french "thermie";1 therm(GB)= 25, 2 thermies(France). Source: European Union. (references) |
