Mining

A digging and unloading attachment hung from a crane or excavator. It consists of a split and hinged bucket fitted with curved jaws or teeth which dig into the loose rock while the bucket is being dropped and contract to lift the load while it is being raised. It is used increasingly for mechanical mucking in shaft sinkings. See also:hoppit. (references)
