Food & Agriculture | An improved Venturi flume developed by the U. S. Department of Agriculture and the Colorado Experiment Station at Fort Collins, Colorado, under the direction of Ralph L. Parshall, to measure the flow of water in open conduits. It consists essentially of a contracting length, a throat and an expanding length. At the throat is a sill over which the water is intended to flow at Belanger's critical depth. The upper head is measured at a definite distance upstream and the lower head at a definite distance downstream from the sill. The lower head need not be observed except where the sill is submerged more than about 67 per cent. Source: European Union. (references) |
