Hominy is dried corn (maize) kernels, reconstituted by soaking in lye-water. Its chief uses are as animal feed and the source of grits and in various recipes or as a side dish.Some recipes using hominy include menudo, a tripe and hominy stew; hominy bread, hominy chili, casseroles and fried dishes.

Hominy is a city located in Osage County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,584.Geography
Hominy is located at 36°25'2" North, 96°23'36" West (36.417141, -96.393423)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.1 km² (2.0 mi²). 5.1 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 2,584 people, 1,021 households, and 671 families residing in the city. The population density is 503.9/km² (1,305.0/mi²). There are 1,208 housing units at an average density of 235.6/km² (610.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 64.28% White, 1.90% African American, 25.31% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 8.05% from two or more races. 3.25% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,021 households out of which 33.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.7% are married couples living together, 15.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% are non-families. 29.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 3.10. In the city the population is spread out with 29.5% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 89.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.5 males. The median income for a household in the city is $24,211, and the median income for a family is $27,578. Males have a median income of $25,476 versus $22,073 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,073. 22.7% of the population and 19.0% of families are below the poverty line.
