Vredenburgh is a town located in Monroe County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 327.

Geography


Vredenburgh is located at 31°49'35" North, 87°19'14" West (31.826518, -87.320686)1. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²). 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.66% is water.

Demographics


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 327 people, 98 households, and 81 families residing in the town. The population density is 84.2/km² (217.4/mi²). There are 120 housing units at an average density of 30.9/km² (79.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 10.70% White, 88.99% Black or African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.31% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 98 households out of which 41.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.8% are married couples living together, 37.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.3% are non-families. 15.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.34 and the average family size is 3.72. In the town the population is spread out with 37.6% under the age of 18, 10.7% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 78.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 67.2 males. The median income for a household in the town is $27,321, and the median income for a family is $27,917. Males have a median income of $26,500 versus $10,833 for females. The per capita income for the town is $5,892. 31.0% of the population and 27.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 35.3% are under the age of 18 and 30.4% are 65 or older.
